Patrick Constantino and the Mission of the Constantino Family Foundation: Bridging the Gap in Education

Patrick James Constantino, founding member and President of the Constantino Family Foundation, is committed to making education more accessible for students in the Bay Area. The Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, focuses its philanthropic efforts on providing scholarships to local students. "Access to educational opportunities is one of the greatest gifts we can give our community’s youth," Patrick says. The Foundation's vision is to empower the next generation with the skills they need to grow, develop, and strengthen their communities.

A Legacy of Community Giving

Patrick's journey into philanthropy was inspired by his father, Paul J. Constantino, who instilled in him the values of community service, education, and hard work. These principles shaped Patrick’s life and career, guiding his commitment to education. He recalls volunteering as an English teacher in China during his youth, spending school vacations teaching at local orphanages. "It was a life-changing experience," Patrick reflects. "I was inspired by the kindness, intellectual curiosity, and tenacity of the students, which taught me the value of access to quality education as a catalyst for improving quality of life."

Patrick’s dedication to education is also deeply personal. A proponent of lifelong learning, Mr. Constantino recently graduated from the University of Oxford with an MBA, highlighting his commitment to personal growth and continuous education. His 15 years of service in the U.S. Army further reinforced the importance of community service and leadership. These experiences fuel his work at the Constantino Family Foundation, where he channels his passion for learning and giving back into tangible support for students and community organizations.

Founding the Foundation and Its Impact

Founded in late 2022, the Constantino Family Foundation began awarding scholarships during the 2023-2024 academic year. Recognizing the financial challenges faced by students—particularly in the high-cost Bay Area—the Foundation partnered with the San Mateo Community College District (SMCCD) and the University of San Francisco (USF) to provide scholarships to those with demonstrated financial need.

"The Foundation named its first two scholarships after my father, Paul, and uncle, Thomas Constantino, whose lifelong dedication to education and their community inspired our mission," Patrick explains. During the 2023-2024 academic year, the Foundation awarded scholarships to four students—two at USF and two within SMCCD.

Beyond scholarships, the Foundation also supports local organizations through microgrants. These grants are awarded to community service organizations, libraries, and schools on the Peninsula, furthering the Foundation’s mission to bolster community resources. "These organizations play a pivotal role in our community; we are proud to support them," Patrick notes.

Looking Ahead: Expanding the Reach

As the Foundation prepares for the 2024-2025 academic year, it is committed to continuing its partnerships with USF and SMCCD. Patrick is eager to incorporate lessons learned from the previous year to improve the Foundation’s efforts and expand its scholarship-granting capabilities. "Community support will be crucial in scaling our efforts," he emphasizes.

The Foundation encourages donations and other forms of partnership. All contributions are tax-deductible and directly fund scholarships and microgrants, enabling the Foundation to continue making a tangible impact on students’ lives.
